The Tailored Steel Product Alliance (TSPA) is an organization that assists automakers in their application of tailored steel products by optimizing the performance of the products and thereby expanding applications and the markets for the products.

The mission of TSPA is to expand the applications and markets for tailored steel products, with principal focus on the automotive industry.  To accomplish this mission, TSPA develops and optimizes the application of tailored products and communicates information to the automotive community.  By so doing, the TSPA enables the provisioning of new structures (such as blanks and tubes) to help automakers produce safe, affordable, lightweight and environmentally efficient vehicles.

Typical Activities

  • Cost modeling of laser welded blanks and tubes in which established Process-Based Cost Modeling procedures are used to compare an automaker’s cost for producing tailored products with conventional monolithic stampings.
  • Business analysis of the market use and application trends of tailored steel products.
  • Communications to automakers and suppliers alike, concerning the benefits of tailored steel products.   This includes the ongoing development of a Design Manual for tailored steel products.
